I tried to read a Course in Miracles several years ago and really had a tough time. Since I wasn't raised Christian the Father, son and Holy Ghost thing sort of gave me some problems and I really struggled with it. The beginning didn't grab me at first but it peaked my interest and kept me reading, by about halfway through I was highlighting passages and finding "aha" moments. The epilogue is supreme and titled: "Everything you always wanted to know about A Course in Miracles but didn't want to have to read the whole course to find out" and it truly is a 14 point breakdown of the whole course. Wonderful food for thought that I will probably be returning to again and again. ...more

This book and its teachings came into my life at the exact moment I needed it. My awakening process has begun. Life is Love. All else is an illusion made "real" by our ego which thrives on fear. Love yourself, love everyone, for we are all one ❤ The Holy Spirit lives within each of us for we are not separate but whole. One consciousness ❤ Love is the answer and the only thing that is truly real. Love yourself first and everything else will fall into place. This book is eye-opening and confirms many of the things I've thought about the fact that we are all connected and one with God, we should choose love over fear, and that the end of the world is not something cataclysmic but in fact an awakening and an end to how we currently see ourselves and the world.

There were so many quotes in this book that I loved. Here's one of my favorites:

"You thought you were here to get stuff, prove yourself, and find people to love you. Instead you are here to get peace, be yourself, and find people to love. You thought you were here to fix the world. Instead you are here to appreciate what is before you and see the world through new eyes. You thought you were here to teach, while you are here to learn. Ultimately teaching and learning
are one. You cannot teach without learning and you cannot learn without teaching. When you teach only love, you learn only love. Then you graduate from the school of illusion and accept the diploma of inner peace, the real degree we are all here to attain."

Interested in A Course in Miracles but can't seem to get into it? This is a great explanation of the basic teachings of the Course in Miracles. This book is short, easy to read, and an inspiration. Take your spiritual life and emotional health to the next level by reading this book. I will continue to refer back to this book over and over for years to come. I am so glad I made the choice to start with this book before wading into ACIM. By having an overview (and commentary) I feel better prepared for the commitment I am making to myself - even though I am 8 lessons into the workbook at this time.

I've heard a lot about A Course In Miracles for many years and have always been curious. It is a formidable book requiring at least a year of study. This book hardly makes it easy, but easier for sure. There are plenty of spiritual principles, and I hope to dive more into them some day. Basically choose love over fear every time and you come out okay.

The guy who narrates the audiobook talks veeerrrry slowly, but is appropriate to the importance of the concepts here. A great intro to ACIM.

Excellent interpretations of ACIM

Read as part of my ACIM journey and study, recommend reading alongside the original text and workbook - a truly worthwhile and involving book.

I've heard so many people quote A Course In Miracles like the Bible, I got curious about it. But when I got it from the library, it weight about 10 pounds and said it was a project for a year. I had checked it out for two weeks. Seemed hopeless, so I returned it.

When I saw this book, it sounded perfect. And it was. It's a book that you can read one tiny section at a time if you want to. (Not all books work for that.) I read a section or two before bed each night, and each little tidbit gave me such a feeling of love and peace. Now I'm considering reading the actual book—but it feels good to know I don't have to. (And if I do, definitely on Kindle. No way I'm hauling the heavy paper one around!)

I feel like this the kind of book that you can read over and over, and every time, it will have the perfect timely perspective that was exactly what you needed at that moment. Love it.

Yellow highlight | Page: 111
Jesus was more interested in bringing the man relief than in waiting for him to have perfect faith. Acting on partial faith leads to perfect faith. Partial faith is perfect in the sense that your belief is whole in the moment you mobilize it.

If you cannot claim perfect faith, claim perfect love. Belief in love is the most effective faith, because God is love. When you love sincerely, the power of the entire universe is behind you.

Faith in outer sources yields temporary success, but faith in our inner Source yields permanent success.

The fear-based mind seeks power from the world, while the love-based mind brings power to the world. When you accept your inherent majesty rather than attributing unmerited power to external agents, you will perform miracles that cannot be explained in any terms the world understands.

Yellow highlight | Page: 115
"Am I now closer to peace?" If so, your seeking has been worthwhile. If not, you must reevaluate where and how you are looking. The ego's motto is "Seek and do not find" (T-12.IV.1:4). It denies the reality of love and regards healing as a threat. Any answer is acceptable to the ego as long as it does not work. Is there another place to look that will end searching rather than reinforce it?

Yellow highlight | Page: 116
If you are hellbent on letting the ego run the show, you will attempt a multitude of solutions that don't work, resort to brute force, and find endless reasons to justify your limits. But if you value peace more than arrogance and success more

Yellow highlight | Page: 116
than struggle, you will turn to Higher Power for help and be open to receive it. And it will come.

Yellow highlight | Page: 117
"Please show me" is one of the most powerful prayers you can speak. But you must be open to Spirit's guidance rather than telling God how to run the show.

Yellow highlight | Page: 118
Better yet, turn to the Holy Spirit before you fall off the ship. You can avoid painful trials and errors by inviting Spirit to guide you at the outset of your decision-making process. Your impeccable guide will make decisions for you in ways far more rewarding than you can make for yourself.

Yellow highlight | Page: 119
When faced with any decision, imagine that you know already. Your task is not to roam the earth seeking someone smarter than you to tell you what to do. Your task is to dive into your heart and remember what you know.

Yellow highlight | Page: 119
You can discern between the advice of the Holy Spirit and that of the ego by noticing the feeling or energy the voice or advice generates. Spirit is founded in love. The ego operates from fear. Love feels good, light, and peaceful and brings relief. Fear feels bad, heavy, and limiting and deepens distress.

Yellow highlight | Page: 123
When you have learned how to decide with God, all decisions become as easy and as right as breathing. There is no effort, and you will be led as gently as if you were being carried down a quiet path in summer.

Yellow highlight | Page: 128
If you burn with the fire of purpose, you will recognize yourself to be greater than any challenge that confronts you and you will be specifically

directed to the path most in harmony with your calling.

Higher Power will provide the ways and means to achieve your goal without any stress on your part. Work may be required. Fear never is.

Overall, this book seems to be a good, easy read as an introduction and basic overview of A Course in Miracles. It presents some of the more radical ideas in ACIM in an easy to understand format, with personal stories from the author.

I quite enjoyed some of the shorter, end chapters of the book, related to ego distractions, health, 'the end of the world', etc. I also liked the author's use of quick one-page notes on some of the FAQs that ACIM students have.
On the other hand, for some reason, possibly the writing style, or perhaps the 'motivationa'/self-help spin on things, I found the book laborious to get through, despite its short length. There's a good amount of clique situations and stories thrown in, and I somehow get the feeling that the author's motivational coaching/self-help background comes through in places. No big deal, but just not my style of reading. I felt that some of the more profound ideas in ACIM, such as forgiveness, the holy instant, the dynamics of the ego & guilt, and working with the HS, were probably glossed over. The author really does motivate people to actually study ACIM (and do the workbook), but on the other hand, there will probably be the temptation for some readers to walk away from this book thinking 'OK, I got it all now.. no need to actually complete ACIM.. especially since this is all that it says'.
This would be a huge mistake, and taking the ego's bait (and switch).
Read this summary by all means, but do complete the Course as well.. there's a lot more to it than inside this 'Made Simple' introduction.
Still, kudos to the author (who seems committed) for writing this book that seems to have helped a good amount of ACIM students understand a little more, a little better.

I consider myself an open-minded Christian. Open to new thoughts, ideas, and even open to learning from other faith traditions. I believe some truth can be found in all things. I approached it with an open mind hoping to learn. To be fair, I did find some things that resonated with me. Some things that seemingly affirmed much of what the Christian tradition teaches. However, in most parts I found it to be so completely different from what Jesus taught that I couldn't, as a Christian, honestly agree with it. Here are just a few examples:

ACIM teaches that there is no sin. Sin is merely perceived and created in our own minds. That if and when we do sin against others, that we really actually didn't sin against them. And, no forgiveness is needed.

ACIM teaches that we are God, that when we hear the voice of God we are actually hearing from ourselves.

ACIM teaches that there is no "savior" outside of ourselves, thus making Jesus null and void.

ACIM teaches that the world around us is merely an illusion. That we have the power to create our own world each day. We are in control.

I can go on. But, I found much of ACIM to be a smorgasbord of spiritual soup. A mixture of Christian ideas, New Age thoughts, and with a tablespoon of psychology thrown in. While I don't have a problem with these things, it just isn't for me.

The holiest place on earth is where an ancient hatred becomes a present love.
Release the imprisoned splendor

Kindness is a mark of spiritual maturity

We are not here to fix the world, but to appreciate what is before us

We do not walk alonev (I will never leave you comfortless, your source has not abandoned you, peace is given the moment you ask for it.)

The goal is total freedom

The idea that we are in a body, denies us to understand that we are a spirit

The message of ACIM: Love is everywhere, as a being of love, so are we. When we look about us, and all that we see is heaven, then the course will have done its job. We will be released to be light.

All that is love, is for us to be ourselves.

1. Only god is real
2. All separation is illusion
3. We are an extension and expression of god. Everything god is, we are. Everything god is not, we are not. God is love, and only love and so are we.
4. Every thought we think, word we speak and action we take represents our choice between love and fear - choose love.
5. The purpose of the body is to communicate love - all other purposes of the body are in vain. Use your body to shine spirit into the world and it will be happy and healthy.
6. The ego is an extremely limited idea of who we are. It is not equipped to guide us and should not be consulted to make choices to bring us peace.
7. The holy spirit is the part of the mind connected with truth. Consult it to make wise choices and you will thrive.
8. Beyond the apparent world is the real world, where everything you desire and deserve exists. You can step into the real world at any moment by remembering your identity as a spiritual being.
9. There is no sin, there are only errors in consciousness. You are already forgiven. All that you believe must come of your sins will never happen
10. The purpose of all relationships is to make you happy. Appreciate and celebrate everyone for they are lovable as you are.
11. People who act unkindly, are calling for love. Evil has no power. Because it does not come from god. Love is the only power.
12. There is nothing you need to do, to earn salvation, you are worthy for what you are. You are already saved, you simply need to know it.
13. The univers is brimming with abundance, you have everything you need, right where you sand. You will always have all that you need.
14. Your only purpose on earth is to make it more like heaven.
15. Worry less and laugh more.
16. There is no death. You are an eternal being. Bodies come and go. But spirits is forever.

What this book does is give an introduction and indeed a summarised over view of all the key points of ACIM. And it does it brilliantly. It makes the point that ACIM works at a heart and soul level, not an intellectual level. Therefore it doesn't really matter if you don't "understand" it as such because reading it and doing the exercises will heal and nourish at a far deeper level that is beyond intellect. The idea that this can be impactful at a more powerful level Than the intellect might sound preposterous. However, I know for other course if I have, this is often the most important way to "learn" because it works at a deeper level than ego.

The brilliance of this book is that even having never read ACIM, it's power is already impacting me just by reading this book. It has given the me the inspiration to buy and work through the ACIM and understand that along the way, it might not all make sense but to trust it WILL be deeply impactful. Even if you don't follow on to do ACIM, you should find that this will result in a shift as it has for me. This last week has had me glued to the book and I have made a few tens of minutes a day to read it. To say this week has been transformational for me is a complete understatement. Thank you Mr Cohen for writing this. I feel deeply grateful to you for doing so!

I chose to read this highly regarded book as a guide to spirituality outside of religion and God. Although there were moments of talk of the hereafter and Jesus's influence on our lives, the majority of the 1st half of the book shed wisdom of the spirituality of a life well lived. I enjoyed the 1st half and feel the better for having read it.

I particularly enjoyed discussions about the interrelationship of fear and love, the absence of sin and therefore the casting out of regret and the negative impact special relationships can have in our lives.

As the book progressed however it was increasingly a discussion of what sounded to me to be a theology, with God at the center (you and God are one) and a hereafter that is not to be feared but revered. The religion is essentially a friendlier version of Christianity with a non-punishing God that encompasses you. Among its many teachings is the premise that all illness is due to a failing of your spirituality that requires only improvement in spirituality for cure. Medication and surgery unnecessary. If a revered death results that is the spiritual path. If severe morbidity results it is a failure of spirituality.

Much of the 2nd half deals with the topic of this relationship between spirituality and ALL disease as well as how to avoid resisting the teachings of ACIM by completing the workbook and focusing on the teachings therein.

For me the book was traveling many bridges too far.

If that is what you want you will be pleased with this book

With the help of Gabby Bernstein's books I have began a spiritual practice this year, and it has been incredible! All of Gabby's books mention A Course in Miracles and I had become so curious about what this Course actually was.

After finally researching I realized that it wasn't just simply a book I could order on Amazon and read in a couple of weeks. And because I'm so new to my spiritual journey I did not have enough faith in myself to actually go through the course.

After finally researching I realized that it wasn't just simply a book I could order on Amazon and read in a couple of weeks. And because I'm so new to my spiritual journey I did not have enough faith in myself to actually go through the course.

I did however see this book, A Course in Miracles MADE EASY, and thought it would be the perfect introduction to what the Course actually is.

I enjoyed the book. It gave me so many great points from the Course but it is written in an easy way for me to understand, and I liked that the book itself was not too long. It's a good way to get a little sneak peak into the Course and definitely had several great little nuggets that I will take with me.

I think in the new year I will take on the challenge of going through the ACIM workbook, and reading this book will have helped me understand the lessons more.

I think I previously passed up on reading this book because I have been studying "A Course in Miracles" together with various study groups for the past 23 years. My ego self thought I was beyond needing a "made easy" book. Haha, the joke's on me. One of our study group attendees brought this book in and gave it to me to look through. After reading only the first few chapters, I bought 7 more copies to share. It's great! If I have learned anything over these past 23 years of study it's that other books, spiritual traditions and perceptions of others only add to my comprehension of Course principles and if it is in my space, I should explore it. We are using it now, along with the Course, in two of our study groups. I am also getting a lot of wisdom from listening to podcasts by circleofa.org ...more

I bought the unabridged version in paperback, and couldn't wait for it to arrive. I could not be happier to have listened to this on audio, especially during a time when listening to someone 'give' the course really made a difference to my absorption of the content. It gave me so much more.

I don't know whether I'll read the unabridged version front to back, but the pressure has eased to grasp every single line now that I feel comfortable with its ideas. I am actually even more excited for the reading experience and exercises, because it will just be a re-examining of what I've already dipped my toes into.

This book says that "A Course in Miracles" will come into your life when you are ready and that is certainly true. A Course in Miracles can be a dense read, especially for beginners. So, this book is very useful in that it makes for a reassuring read as it gently eases you into the Course's principles. In the beginning I felt anxious listening to the book because I was beating myself up for not 'living' the principles, which are so eloquently explained by the author. It's a decent book, but it's a book about a book and, you know how source material can feel truly inspired, that little spark is not here. But the original text of ACIM on which it is based is not that accessible when you're not ready for it (it took me a long time) and so this can help you understand what's in store for you when you are ready. Hard to explain, but simply put, it's an experience more than a book to be read. This book is a great introduction, however, and a great place to start if you want to prepare for ACIM. Just comparatively, it's a fraction of the original, of course. ...more

Good for a beginner but it reads like a Bible.. As an atheist I found it completely full of fluff and nonsensical advice. Not everything is impractical and it is great even for a spiritual believer, like myself. But it is definitely a book you will either love and cherish or despise with disbelief. This is only a subjective opinion, meaning that you might neither agree or disagree with this review. It's best to read it yourself from a library or a preview. The book states it isn't tied to any religion and that anyone can read it but I don't believe that to be the case...

This book has some really rich messages. I needed to take my time to digest a more metaphysical approach to life, time, Spirit and love. I'm glad I read the book.

I had a difficult time reading some of the author's unresearched opinions about other religions, especially Mormonism. I fear he had a bad experience with that faith and this is why he paints it in such a harsh light.

It also seemed to me that the author's ego was ever present, which wouldn't be as big of a deal if the book was not abo

It also seemed to me that the author's ego was ever present, which wouldn't be as big of a deal if the book was not about eliminating ego and focusing on love.

I'm intrigued and felt this book offered a lot of powerful truths and perspectives, which I will be pursuing further.

This book is phenomenal. It explains the Course so clearly, without losing the complexity. It is so easy to read, and fun to read: there is minimal philosophical language, and many fun, down-to-earth examples to illustrate the concepts of the Course. This has reignited my interest in the Course and will be a great resource as I continue working through it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who at all interested in A Course in Miracles, whether you are just starting out or are farther along.

This book puts the study of a Course in Miracles in easy to understand, practical application terms. If you're curious about this subject, this is a great book to quick understanding.

Excerpt: When most people say "Get real," they mean Get small. Get limited. Get stuck. I am trapped in my little fear-bound world, and your expansive vision is threatening to me. So I demand that you grovel in the mud with me. How dare you rock my tiny world with greater possibilities!

Superb summary

After having a copy of ACIM for well over 20 years and being unable to read it, Alan Cohen"s book finally made sense of it for me - and gave me "permission" to disregard the (overly Christian) language which had put me off it for so long.

This book does indeed make the concepts of ACIM seem easier to understand, and has given me the kick I needed to start studying it in earnest.

Alan Cohen is the author of several self help books.

"There are two ways to turn devils into angels: First, acknowledge things about them that you genuinely appreciate. Uncle Morty took you to the beach when you were a kid. Your mom still sends you money on your birthday. Your ex-wife is a good mother to your children. There must be something you sincerely appreciate about this person. Shift your attention from the mean and nasty things they have said or done to the kind and helpful things they have said or done—even if there are just a few or even only one. You have defined this person by their iniquities. You can just as easily—actually, more easily—define them by their redeeming qualities. It's your movie. Change the script. Perhaps you are still arguing that the person who has hurt you has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. She is evil incarnate, Rosemary's baby conceived with Satan himself, poster child for the dark side of the Force, destined to wreak havoc and horror in the lives of everyone she touches. A nastier bitch never walked the earth. Got it. Let's say all of this is true—the person who troubles you is a no-good, cheating, lying SOB. Now here's the second devil-transformer. Consider: How has this person helped you to grow? What spiritual muscles have you developed that you would not have built if this person had been nicer to you? Have you learned to hold your power and self-esteem in the presence of attempted insult? Do you now speak your truth more quickly and directly? Are you now asking for what you want instead of passively deferring? Are you setting healthier boundaries? Have you deepened in patience and compassion? Do you make more self-honoring choices? There are many benefits you might have gained, or still might gain, from someone who challenges you." — 3 likes
